|
12 March 2010- Ethiopia’s former two-time Olympic 10000m champion Derartu Tulu will compete in her first marathon this year when she takes part in the 30th Nagoya International Marathon in Japan on Sunday March 13th 2010.
Tulu, 37, who surprisingly won last November New York City Marathon in a three-way battle against Ludmila Petrova of Russia and Christelle Daunay of France, has a personal best time of 2:23:30 set at the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 where she finished fourth. Tulu, one of the most decorated distance runners of all time, won the Olympic 10,000m title in both 1992 and 2000 and the world 10000m title in 2001. It will be her third marathon following a two-year maternity leave from competition and follows a third place finish in the Madrid Marathon last year. |
