Injured Bekele doubtful for world cross country

12 March 2010- Ethiopia's double Olympic and world 5000m and 10000m champion Kenenisa Bekele has reversed his decision to retire from the world cross country championships, but is nonetheless an injury doubt for this year's race in Poland.

The 27-year old, who has been dogged with injury since finishing fourth in the Great Edinburgh Cross Country, had indicated two years earlier that the 2008 event in Edinburgh, Scotland would be his late in the annual competition.

But he has since had a change of heart and decided to compete in this year's race after consultation with his national federation. However, Bekele is still not sufficiently recovered from the calf injury that ruled him out of world 3000m record attempts in Birmingham, UK and Lievin, France.

Bekele has already started training in his home base Addis Ababa. Selectors at the Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) are expected to announce their final squad for Poland next week after the conclusion of the world indoor championships in Doha.
