Wins for Dibaba and Gezhagne in Boston

8 February 2010- Ethiopia's double Olympic champion Tirunesh Dibaba and youngster Kalkidan Gezhagne topped the women's 5000m and 3000m respectively at the 2010 Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Saturday night.

In the women's 5000m, Dibaba won a predictable and solo contest in 14:44.53 with her hopes of getting near compatriot Meseret Defar's world record at the event never materializing thanks largely to terrible pacemaking and stomach cramps. Nevertheless, Dibaba's performance was a world leading time by all accounts and more than eight seconds faster than Kenya's Sally Kipyego.

While Dibaba's victory was largely predictable, Gezhagne surprised many with her triumph in the women's 3000m in her first ever indoor race. The 21-year old middle distance runner, who had finished tenth in the world outdoor championships 1500m final, clocked 8:46.19 to beat Genzebe Dibaba and American world championship 1500m bronze medallist Shannon Rowbury.
