Gebru and Tesfaye grab 30k victories in Adama

2 November  2009- Defense club runners Roman Gebru and Dereje Tesfaye were the winners of the second annual 30km race organized by the Ethiopian Athletics Federations (EAF) in Adama, 100km from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The women's race provided the biggest shock of the day as Gebru, who is a relatively unknown runner, beat Prisons club runner and established marathon runner Radiya  Adilo to take victory in 1.52.42 with Adilo (1.53.08) beating Mihiret Anamo to take second.

The men's race very much went according to script with pre-race favorite Dereje Tesfaye taking victory in 1:34.18 ahead of newcomers Mohammed Yimam and Adugna Hunde respectively.

The race, which is open only to elite club and regional runners, saw record participation levels for an elite 30k with 179 men and 56 women athletes taking part.
